What is America coming on?

Published by avicious under Front Lines

Tonight at 8PM these three programs will be on simultaneosly:

America’s Next Top Model
America’s Ballroom Challenge
&
American Idol

Seriously? Is this what we have come to. Where a Norman Lear when you need him. Socially aware scripted shows that didn’t sell anyone false hope or a career in the alledged reality of “reality” programming. Awful. Just awful.

Here is my new pitch:
America’s Best Least Creative Creative Executive

Del has the Hieroglphys – but so does Peter Rabbit

The full and complete text of Beatrix Potter’s world-famous and universally loved ‘Tale of Peter Rabbit’ faithfully translated and transcribed page for page into the hieroglyphic script of an Egyptian of the Middle Kingdom and illustrated with all the original colour artwork by the author herself. Based on the official centenary edition published in 2002, the translation combines the familiar face of the original with the British Museum’s world-renowned expertise and scholarship.Christopher Robin was my first experience with a Dandy. Good thing our parents gave us a muscle bound loin-cloth wearing tough guy like He-Man to offset the influence of Christopher Robin. Whew!

K.I.T.T. RC Car! Where were you when I was 8??

Published by avicious under Uncategorized

It takes genuine talent to outshine an acting juggernaut like David
Hasselhoff. But, unbelievable though it may seem, the Hoff was once
upstaged by a car. And it wasn’t just any old car, it was KITT, or to
give its full title, the Knight Industries Two Thousand. This sleek,
customized Pontiac Trans-Am was impervious to attack, could cruise at
300mph and was loaded with hi-tech armaments. It could even talk,
albeit in an incredibly camp, condescending voice. And now, thanks to
your hairy-chested friends at the Firebox Foundation, you can own a
fully-functioning, R/C version of one of crummy TV’s greatest
vehicles. The Knight Rider R/C Car doesn’t have a molecular bonded
shell, and it can’t leap through the air (unless you throw it). It
does, however, travel forwards, backwards, left and right, and boasts
a ‘turbo-boost’ function. It also emits that familiar whooshing sound
and features a working red sensor on the hood. Best of all, this
tribute to an 80s legend talks when you hit a button on the
transmitter: ‘I am KITT, whom you may regard as the voice of the
Knight 2000. As soon as you get behind the wheel (well fool around
with the transmitter) of this iconic vehicle the Knight Rider
memories will come flooding back: Michael’s unfeasibly tight jeans,
Devon’s plummy voice, April’s incredible set of *ahem* wrenches and
that pulsating theme music. In fact, this beautifully built R/C car
is so evocative you might be tempted to buy an ill-fitting leather
jacket, get a perm and cruise the highways fighting crime. Or maybe
not. With whispers of a new series of Knight Rider in the pipeline,
there’s never been a better time to make a total Hasselhoff out of
yourself. Whether you’re a fan of the show or you just love
everything to do with the Hoff (and who doesn’t?), buying a Knight
Rider R/C Car is your civic duty. After all, how else will you
champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless and the powerless in
a world of criminals who operate above the law? Exactly!

Sea of Cortez/Hell on Wheels.

Published by avicious under Uncategorized

I was driving down and back to San Diego listening to the new EP by friends in Sea of Cortez. The songs can cross pollinate so many different angles and influences and yet sound very original and, well….true. Today I am meeting with Christian and Tom and will give them the backbone of what it is I will try to be conveying with images gleaned to make a rock/video pie. Then it’s over to the Egyptian for some “Hell on Wheels”, a film by Bob Ray. The documentary follows the emergence of the Roller Derby in Texas. He has worked on this film for many years and I look forward to seeing the fruits of his work. Should be fun with the LA Derby Dolls in the house.
