Song Mapping – working on new system
There is something to be said for breaking apart a piece of music
into sections in order to plan and capture for visual presentation.
Storyboarding, long used in most visual mediums, is the next step for
me as I push myself into a more structured and focused place. I find
myself playing too much. Pushing fun buttons too much. Not focusing
enough. That being said, this week I plan to setup a system that I
have been working through in my head of breaking apart the music I am
collaborating with into time fragments that will ultimately be
written into visuals. My goal is to work faster by working in a
structured environment and ultimately better utilizing my limited time.
My first project – Archways music. I met with Ray from Archways over
the weekend to converse about doing visuals for the band. Their music
blends the introspection and description of the beauty of the darker
side of emotion. Our conversation was good and many of the visual
paradigms I had put down on my notepad he had actually brought to my
attention prior to my mention. That is always a good thing. When
actualized – this will be a SHOW!

oHio hOtel kit
If it wasn’t for having this I would totally be going out of my mind in this town. My practice kit fits snuggly in an overhead compartment and doesn’t cost me $15 spot on US Air.
Tip, Philips DCP851/37 portable DVD player and iPod dock is a great screen for on the go practicing and testing. Its also good for watching vids on the plane through either DVD or video iPod. Z
$159 from Target = good buy

TSOC Ancestors
Just picked up the new practice disc from The Sea Of Cortez. Word is that former bass player – Donald – is coming back from Dallas to rejoin. Band is currently in flux. Regardless I want to get started on some tracks to work through setup. New gear configuration is being worked on as I am attempting to become lighter and more mobile. I have to work more with an unpredictable environment to lose the neccessity of a predetermined structure but, that is a whole other deal.
TSOC are not quite solidified but are forming. This could allow for an easier transition to being a truely accepting of a visual component type band. Our hope is to create a performance that acts much the same way a film does. Breaks of conciousness would be minimized so as to lock the audience into an experiences that moves their emotional wave along with the music.
I leave for Ohio on Tuesday morning and will be bringing my gig bag to work on some base visual trax.

CT Imagery & JRS Visualization
New photos of still images taken for animated sequencing now in the
photo section. I took these, animated them and played them live
during the Anthology SD show. They were great but I don’t think they
will stay with the Transfer set. Might move these over to Sea of
Cortez as they work much better with the fabric of SOC music. These
were the result of some late night running down Sepulveda with my
buddy Christian fun time happenings. I look forward working further
to play on the beat matching between still images and sound beats.
Very similar.
