Working on new songs for Transfer
As the rain begins to fall along the stretch of Sepulveda Blvd I reside on, I have been in mellow mood hanging out in the studio working on some basic visual outlines for Transfer’s new song “Deer Skin”. The track definitely is a great addition to the set as it slows down the show for a minute but kicks up audience participation through the ease at which an audience can pick up the chorus and sing it right back. The first time we played this song I had no idea they were going to do it. Luckily, and this is a tip I give to all VJs working with rock bands, I kept 7 tracks of random content standing by. This worked out as a loop section that I had been working on, made from taking burst photos of an Adidas box, fit perfectly behind the band. This mixed with an inverted counter image and the ability to rotate the image so as to weave it into itself, allowed for a pleasant and non-obtrusive background to the song. That being the outline for tonight, I worked how we could add a bit more depth to the song without taking away from the beauty of simplicity. This was achieved through the texturing of the image and push the contrast levels. Being that the visuals are currently duo-tone (black and white), I will work with some keying out of the blacks or whites and incorporate some classically effected live footage. When we get a clean record of the song we will post.
PS, If anyone has need for VJs in the upcoming month – I am open as of next week. My current gig has slowed and I have more time to work on freelance projects.
