Excuse the last minute repair on the screen. Bass players with big necks swing violently and take out the VJ’s gear. XO bass player.

Stageview – AVicious & DJ Edgartronic @ X1FM #VJ

Published by John-Ryan Shea under Uncategorized

X1FM_AVicious

AVicious and DJ Edgartronic in the X1FM studios August 7th. This show was fun. People started bringing in coolers of refreshments and danced their asses off while Edgartronic and I threw it down from the stage. As soon as they get the edit done on this show I will post up the video. It was hot as hell in there for a bit and I think I went threw 2 shirts or so but it was worth it to mix it up with DJ Edgartronic again. Word is we may be booking up some shows in the near future. We will keep you up to date on when that is going down.

Lucid house June 2009 from lucidhouse on Vimeo.

From VJVault.com:
Morris La Mantia or more commonly known in the VJ circle as Lucid House has been mixing it up for years with his own custom loops and remixed samples. His latest piece posted offers a nice colorful splash of his surreal work mixed with audio and visual film samples. Taking it a step further Lucid House gives credit where due and lists his bits and pieces. Kudos!

Quartz Composer Book is Coming! #VJ

Published by John-Ryan Shea under Uncategorized

I have been hoping for someone to come out with something like this for some time. To be perfectly honest I have never been a strong coder. My background is in production with a good amount of editing. Graphics and patch based coding programs have only recently been thrust into my world by the neccessity to make AVicious’ visuals better and more interesting. To have a book on QC coming out soon makes me happier than a pig in shit. Nice to see the US/Euro tag team on this one. Can’t wait.

From Shakinda’s blog:
This book and DVD shows the full potential of Quatz Composer, from taking a complete novice through the software setup process and getting to grips its interface, all the way to enabling the modelization of complex 3d audio reactive environments, midi interaction, to retrieving online database information.

AVICIOUS @ NORTH PARK MUSIC THING

VJ PANELS/WORKSHOPS:
SATURDAY 8/8 – 2:35pm – LaSalle Room – Part I – Intro to VJ’ing
SUNDAY 8/9 @ 1:15pm – LaSalle Room – Part II – Technique

Description:

How do you play the same venues with the same lights as everyone else and hope to stand out from the crowd? The divide between music and video performance is blurring at a rapid pace. Many of the tools and techniques that were once out of price range are now available to the average consumer and creative people are latching on to create an entirely new industry right under our noses. Today s Visualists & VJs are time-based improvisational artists that draw from filmmaking, music, design and coding to create their work. Panelists will be discussing what it takes to become a visual performer, current hardware & software of the trade and how to increase the production value of your performance with a few simple tools you probably already have.

Panelists: John-Ryan Shea (AVicious), Jeremy Glaholt (AVicious),
Matthew Molarius (Transfer & Obscure Magpie) and Matthew Fraynd (Glorybound Productions).

NPMT PERFORMANCE:

91X, OBSCURE MAGPIE & AVICIOUS PRESENT:
@ U-31, 3112 University Ave. San Diego, CA

VDMX Wii DVcamera Sample Technique by Moongold

Published by avicious under VDMX, Video

Just came back from Toys R’ Us with a new wii remote to test and see if it’s something we want to throw into our sets. After a little futzing with the remote to get it setup we were locked in to how fun the tunnel effect was when our Wii controlled the movement. That’s just the first step. We have lots more to develop and work on and thus you will not be seeing the Wii at one of our 2 shows this weekend. It may just end up on one of the 2 panel discussions we have though. Here is what Visualist Moongold had to say and tutorialize on the subject:

VDMX as a Live Video Loop Sampler
Here is my most recent series of four tutorials for people just starting out with VDMX and wanting to learn a little more about a real life application for the app that utilises the Wii remote.

These tutorials are based upon my recent experiences with The DIY Tour where I used VDMX and a Wiimote to capture live clips off stage, over a large number of gigs, for up to nine or ten bands an evening.
For the physical set-up I used a venerable Sony TRV890 DV camera connected by a 10mt S-Video cable to a Canopus ADVC-55 DV Converter box and thence by a short firewire cable to the firewire 400 input on a MacBook Pro.

I was one of three Vjs on the Tour along with Chris Redshaw and Trip. My live input fed into a V8 mixer along with pre-prepared clips from the Tour workshops and al fresco work by both the other VJs for all the evenings.

My VDMX set-up didn’t start out this way but was refined and tuned over the weeks of the Tour to the point that I wouldn’t hesitate to use this set-up in most any situation.

There are any number of ways of doing the same thing in different ways within VDMX, no doubt some are better than the ways I show. I would love to hear about any improvements people come up with to this set-up or changes that would improve the usability.
