Queen Bee’s Art & Cultural Center is a concept that has developed over the past ten years here in San Diego through hard work and dedication, a love of all forms of art, a lot of great people, and the passion of one woman that has always been the visionary that has kept the dream alive for all of us. We are dedicated to many things at the QB Center such as supporting local musicians and artists, providing quality entertainment at affordable prices to the people of San Diego, and a place to experience a wide variety of cultural events and activities that families can come enjoy together. San Diego, CA, USA 92101

On Saturday, February 13th, 2010, San Diego will experience heartbreak in a grotesquely beautiful Cupid-less apocalypse – the inaugural Tortured Hearts Ball, where Despair will meet Desire, and with a lascivious vengeance!

Come celebrate all things erotic and bizarre at our ode to the bitter and the lonely, the bound and the broken, at an event too bold for San Diego.

If Valentine’s Day has ever left a sour taste in your mouth, if love has ever raped your soul, if cruelty has made you find humor in the despair of others, or if you just want to be at the event above all other Valentine’s Day events, then this is your invitation to the Tortured Hearts Ball.

You will come dressed in your best BLACK and RED. You will be engrossed in our demented world inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Through the Looking Glass. You will be enjoying ridiculously strong drinks. You will have front row seats to a fashion show like you haven’t seen. You will rock out to one of San Diego’s most entertainingly unique bands. You will be partying with our DJs until 5am!

~~THE ENTERTAINMENT~~

Opening the event will be a dynamic set performed by Turbo Teen! Known throughout San Diego as an energetic and premier duo, they will be kicking off the Tortured Hearts Ball and leading the dance into the rest of the night!

Be prepared to be entertained by San Diego’s ONLY Dark Cabaret band. The Tragic Tantrum have been leaders in waking up the local Dark Cabaret scene. They have created a niche for the macabre, the quirky and the strange to band together and create a world just as delightfully dark and beautiful as their imagination. Incorporating elements of circus, theater and cabaret, the Tragic Tantrum creates an environment that will titillate the senses on all levels. With visuals to accompany the music, they arouse the darker parts of your imagination to “come out and play.”

The Tortured Hearts Ball presents the up and coming design concepts by Trashy Klassy! Kristine Grafke will be cutting models up right before your eyes, transforming a wardrobe line from normal to trashy, klassy, and tortured! Her work represents a way of life and every single piece she creates is a unique and artistic creation.

After that, we will change the pace up a bit just to get you back on that dance floor. From the San Francisco Bay Area, DJ Drenik’s style is deep, funky, sexy and soulful. He has played alongside world class talent like Bad Boy Bill, DJ Dan, Sander Van Doorn, Dj Icey, The Shape Shifters and Dieselboy. He now resides in San Diego and is dedicated to bringing the Funky Underground Sound to America’s Finest City.

JUST ADDED!!! Now you will also be grooving to the electronic/techno core of sound mixed with experimental musings and avant-garde twists as performed by AntiQuark! Their shows are a hi-energy multimedia experience and they have shared the stage with Orgy, Pigface, Le Tigre, Bettina Koster, Red Flag, Godhead and The Last Dance.

Headlining our Tortured Hearts Ball is DJ Edgartronic and AVicious, who plays a signature blend of electro-house, indie & rock remixes and 80s, has kept San Diego dance floors moving since 2005. He’s played to audiences in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas and Tijuana, and shared the stage with AFI, Rise Against, MSTRKRFT, and many others!

AVicious is a performance video and design team founded in 2008 and based in Los Angeles, CA. They create fully customizable, controllable and improvisational performance video works for concerts, events and visual environments. AVicious’ conceptualizes unique visual environments that lead to their designing and producing the live performance video of many productions, events and tours.

All your senses will be engaged in this party, as there’ll also be plenty of art going down, hosted by Chanel and Christine Penley! See new art based on our theme of bound and broken hearts and meet many of San Diego’s true canvas talents.

Artists inlcude Chanel and Christine Penley, Alex Julian, CSI Carl, True Delorenzo, Tatyana Chechuga, and more!

Preregistration is only $16.00 all pre-registered guests will receive a free cocktail ticket. Pre-registration will close on February 12th,and then it is $20.00 at the door (and NO free cocktail). And yes, you love-deluded couples are invited, as well.

The Pacific Gaslamp 15 is a multiplex theater located in the Gaslamp Quarter of downtown San Diego. The building was designed by the firm of Benson & Bohl. A review that I read calls this theater "A multiplex with style".

This is part of that review:
"So the cozy movie house is all but extinct. Hey, at least this multiplex has style! It is the grande dame of the Gaslamp's matriarchy of Victorian buildings: Its art deco, Puttin' on the Ritz exterior is spectacular. In the lobby, the same kind of top-hatted poshness is achieved via lavishly patterned, thick carpets, "Gone With The Wind" staircases (inside it's a two-story affair), and concession people dressed just like genuine riverboat gamblers whose fortunes have taken a bizarre turn".

"Film Rocks" underscores the synergy between movies and music. Through musically-inspired short films and music videos, "Film Rocks" celebrates the evolving and symbiotic relationship between these two powerful art forms.
